AMX Corporation chooses Soffront Defect Tracking application to improve processes and quality control

Background:

AMX Corporation is an industry-leader in the development, manufacturing, and marketing of integrated remote control systems. AMX hardware and software provide end users with the capability to operate over 10,000 different electronic devices -- including video systems, audio systems, educational media, and security systems -- from a single easy-to-use control panel in a variety of settings. From residential to corporate sites, industrial to governmental, educational to entertainment, AMX technology integrates electronic devices from a variety of manufacturers into a single operating system.

Requirements:

In order to retain their high product standard as well as maintain critical customer satisfaction, AMX needed to implement a defect tracking system, which would enable them to identify defects in their software and track their correction.

Michael Morris, Director of Software Development for AMX Corporation, explained their need for a defect tracking system. "We needed a third party tool to track incidents reported against our product line to enable the development team to respond appropriately, thereby ensuring the highest quality of our products," Morris stated.

Since AMX deals with a broad range of manufacturing systems, it was imperative for them to locate a defect tracking system customizable to their unique requirements. 

Solution:

AMX analyzed several solutions before choosing TRACK and TRACKWeb by Soffront Software.

"There were two determining factors in our choice of TRACK software. First, it was simple to customize, and second, it was extremely cost-effective for us. The pricing structure for shared licenses fit our budgetary limitations," Morris explained.

AMX also utilizes TRACKWeb, a web-based customizable defect tracking tool that allows developers, vendors, customers, and users to easily access and submit defect information and feature requests through their web browser - such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Explorer. TRACK and TRACKWeb are fully customizable and seamlessly integrate with each other.

"One of the best features of the software is its ease of customization. We had to add certain fields and change certain values to fit our needs. This was accomplished quickly and with very little research effort," Morris noted.

The reliability of the product has also impressed Morris. "TRACK has worked flawlessly for us since we installed the product. It is simple to administer and is easily altered to meet our changing needs."


Results:

Morris reports that AMX has been extremely pleased with the performance of TRACK and TRACKWeb. The TRACK software has enabled AMX to reduce development time, improve technical support, and increase communication between teams. In addition, customer satisfaction has been enhanced, as customers are able to obtain reliable status reports of defect tracking.
